For the most part, my Eagle Project went as planned. I was a little too optimistic in my idea of finishing all the painting in one day. It ended up taking four days. Inclement weather made us stop painting early on September 7 and 9. I hoped to have it done by the ninth, but we ended up having to finish on Monday, the eleventh. The flyer system worked great. We got about half of resident’s permission on the day we actually handed out the flyers. For the people that were not home, we left a flyer and most of them returned the form or gave me a call. Nine of 132 said they did not want the service done for them. One man explained that he simply did not want to support the Boy Scouts. There were twelve people I never communicated with and did not get an answer for yes or no in the five days we worked in Woodlake. For them, I prepared a second flyer stating we did not want to exclude anyone and gave them my phone number to contact me if they want their address numbers painted within the next 30 days. I initially planned on using two sets of stencils bought from the store. That didn’t work because the ones from the store were made of thin, flimsy wax paper. I ended using the stencils from the store to make my own stencils from thicker cardboard. I made enough of my own stencils for two full sets they worked perfect because I made the border around each number big enough to fill the entire white background. All I had to do was lay these large stencils down and they would cover up all the white. |
